PROFESSIONAL GUIDE, 2026 EDITION: CAREERS IN CHINA AND HONG KONG

(MODEL’S PROFESSIONAL HANDBOOK 2026: CAREERS IN CHINA & HONG KONG)

INTRODUCTION: A NEW ERA OF MODELING IN ASIA

Dear Candidates!

You are reading this document because you are considering the possibility of doing business in the world’s largest and most affluent market—the Asian market. Today, China and Hong Kong are not just an alternative to Europe. They are the center of global commerce, where trends are born and fortunes are made.

However, Asia is a complex region. It has different laws, a different mindset, and different expectations regarding discipline. Our goal as a parent agency is not just to find you a contract, but also to ensure your safety, the legality of your stay, and your comfort.

In this guide, we'll walk you through every aspect of your upcoming trip in detail: from applying for a visa to ordering food through the app.

CHAPTER 1: THE GEOGRAPHY OF OPPORTUNITIES

We place models in different markets based on their type. Understanding the differences between cities is critical to your career.

1. HONG KONG (HONG KONG SAR)

Status: Asia's luxury capital.

  • Atmosphere: A blend of London and New York in the tropics. English is the official language.

  • Specialization: High Fashion, editorials, luxury catalogs, jewelry brand campaigns.

  • Who are we sending: Models with striking features, «expensive-looking» faces, flawless skin, and good English. Personality is what matters here.

2. SHANGHAI

Status: The fashion capital of mainland China.

  • Atmosphere: China's most European city. A hub for art and design.

  • Specialization: Fashion weeks, magazines, creative photo shoots, showrooms.

  • Who are we sending: Tall runway models, models with unconventional looks ("Strange face"), and classic beauties.

3. GUANGZHOU AND HANGZHOU

Status: The World's Manufacturing Hubs and E-commerce Capitals.

  • Atmosphere: A frantic pace, business, commerce.

  • Specialization: Clothing catalogs (Taobao, Tmall), mass-market, lingerie, plus-size.

  • Who are we sending: Commercial models, ready for hard work and high earnings.

CHAPTER 2: VISA REQUIREMENTS AND LEGALIZATION (DETAILED ANALYSIS)

Security starts with documentation. We operate strictly within the law.

2.1. WORK VISA FOR CHINA (CATEGORY Z / WORK PERMIT)

Many models are afraid to travel to China because of rumors about police checks. These risks apply only to those who are working illegally (on tourist or business visas). Our models are protected by law.

Registration Process (Step-by-Step):

  1. Gathering documents: Please send us a scan of your international passport (valid for at least 6 months), professional photos on a white background (3.5 x 4.5 cm), a copy of your diploma (scan), and a certificate of no criminal record (not always required; depends on the province).

  2. Serving in China: The Chinese agency submits your documents to the Bureau of Foreigners' Affairs. This takes 2–4 weeks.

  3. Receiving a Notification Letter: This is an official government invitation with a barcode. It guarantees that you are officially expected.

  4. Visit to the consulate: Take this letter to the Chinese Consulate in your country (Moscow, Kyiv, Minsk, etc.) to obtain a visa.

  5. Upon arrival: Within 30 days of arrival, the visa in your passport is replaced with Residence Permit (Residence permit) — a plastic card that allows you to live and work in the country, as well as to enter and leave the country multiple times.

2.2. WORK VISA FOR HONG KONG (EMPLOYMENT VISA)

Hong Kong has its own immigration system. A Chinese visa is not valid here, and vice versa.

Application Process:

  1. Sponsorship: The host agency acts as your sponsor.

  2. Proof of uniqueness: We are preparing a package of documents to prove to the Immigration Department that you are a unique specialist (model) and that your work cannot be performed by a local resident.

  3. E-Visa: Hong Kong now issues electronic visas. You don't need to go to the embassy. We'll send you a PDF file, which you can print out and show at the border.

  4. Dates: The process takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Funding: The agency covers (advances) all visa-related expenses and records them on your statement.

CHAPTER 3: LIFE AND DAILY EXISTENCE (LIFESTYLE & ADAPTATION)

What will your daily life be like?

3.1. MODEL APARTMENTS (YOUR HOME)

You won't have to look for housing on your own. The agency will arrange your housing.

  • Standard: The apartments are located in business-class residential complexes (compounds). The grounds are secured, and often feature a garden and a swimming pool.

  • Neighbors: You live with other models (girls with girls, guys with guys). It's an international environment: Brazil, Russia, Poland, Colombia.

  • Amenities: Fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, washing machine. Bed linens are provided, but we recommend bringing your own set of pillowcases for personal hygiene.

3.2. DIGITAL SURVIVAL (APPS & INTERNET)

In Asia, your smartphone is your survival tool.

FOR CHINA (REQUIRED):

  1. VPN (Virtual Private Network): In China, Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, and YouTube are all blocked. You'll need to purchase and install a paid VPN. before departure. The free versions don't work there!

  2. WeChat (Weixin): It's a «super app.» You use it to communicate with your travel agent, check your schedule, pay at stores, and hail a taxi. You can't get by in China without WeChat.

  3. Alipay: Main Wallet. Link your card to it (or use the TourPass feature) to pay anywhere. Cash is rarely accepted.

  4. DiDi: The Chinese version of Uber. It has an English interface. You can simply copy the casting address from WeChat.

FOR HONG KONG:

Everything works here (Instagram, Google Maps). You'll need the Citymapper or Google Maps app to navigate the subway and buses, as well as Uber.

3.3. FOOD AND NUTRITION

  • Delivery: In China, there are services like Meituan and Ele.me. Food is delivered in 20–30 minutes at any time of day. You can order anything from burgers to fresh fruit.

  • Supermarkets: In major cities, there are chains that sell imported goods (Carrefour, Ole, CitySuper). You'll find oatmeal, yogurt, chicken breast, and avocados.

  • Water: Do not drink tap water! Only bottled water.
